Beijing Post-Shenzhen Research Institute signed a contract with Tianyi Research Institute to jointly build Tiansuan Constellation

On the afternoon of October 31st, Shenzhen Research Institute of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (hereinafter referred to as “Beijing Posts and Telecommunications Shenzhen Research Institute”) and Changsha Tianyi Space Science and Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Tianyi Research Institute”) signed a joint agreement in Shenzhen Beiyou Science and Technology Building Established a cooperation agreement on “Heaven’s Constellation”. The two sides will work together to provide my country with better experimental verification and technical support in the fields of aerospace information network and aerospace computing, and look forward to fruitful results.

Wang Wenbo, vice president of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, said in his speech that at present, the development of space-air-ground integration technology is highly valued at home and abroad. The cooperation with Tianyi Research Institute to build a constellation is an important activity for the development of Beiyou in Shenzhen. It is also an important symbol of Beiyou’s expansion from the traditional ground information network to the future field of spatial information network, and it is of great significance.

Yang Feng, founder and CEO of Tianyi Research Institute, said that Tianyi Research Institute, as the overall satellite project of Tiansuan constellation, will give full play to its own advantages and cooperate with Beijing Post to successfully complete the constellation mission. Celestial Constellation is not only aimed at serving the country’s major strategic needs and international scientific and technological frontier exploration, but also an open and open source platform for on-orbit testing of aerospace computing that integrates production, education and research. Wang Shangguang, deputy director of the Network and Switching Technology Laboratory (Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications) and chief scientist of Tiansuan Constellation, introduced the positioning, goals, operation mechanism and construction plan of Tiansuan constellation.

According to reports, Tiansuan Constellation aims to build an open and open source on-orbit test of aerospace computing that integrates production, education, and research through the intelligent, service-oriented, and open design of satellites, focusing on new network computing, integrated service computing, and distributed intelligent computing. The platform focuses on tasks such as 6G core network system, satellite data networking, satellite operating system, device and load testing, federated learning and AI acceleration, and on-board service capability opening. The goal of Tiansuan Constellation is to carry out preliminary exploration for my country to build an intelligent and comprehensive digital information infrastructure, and to provide technical support for promoting the development of my country’s 6G network, satellite Internet and other technologies. The positioning of Tiansuan Constellation is to meet the needs of the country, aim at the international frontier, be based on production, education and research, adhere to open source and strive for international leadership.

The first phase of the Tiansuan constellation has a total of 6 satellites, including 2 main stars, 2 auxiliary stars and 2 edge stars. The first satellite, Beiyou-1, will be launched in May 2022, and the constellation will be completed in 2023. After the Tiansuan constellation is completed, it will become an important influential force in my country’s satellite field, and it will also serve as one of the global satellite network science and technology innovation bases to cope with the world’s technological changes.

During the event, Zhu Fusheng, Dean of Guangdong New Generation Communication and Network Innovation Research Institute, Huang Gang, Deputy Dean of Peking University Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, Lu Lu, Deputy Director of Basic Network Technology Research Institute of China Mobile Research Institute, and Director of Huawei Cloud Technology Innovation Department Qi Baojian made a speech as the representative of the first batch of cooperative co-construction units of Tiansuan Constellation, briefly reviewed the previous cooperation achievements in satellite digital networking, on-board 5G core network, cloud-native satellite computing platform, etc., and looked forward to further development through Tiansuan Constellation Cooperation.

Relying on the Shenzhen Research Institute of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications to settle in Shenzhen, “Tian Su Constellation” will, as always, give full play to and integrate the resource advantages of Shenzhen Virtual University Park and the advantages of Beiyou in the field of information and communication, so as to cultivate talents for the Shenzhen area, carry out academic exchange activities, Industrial cooperation and the transformation of scientific research achievements.
