Amphenol RF Introduces New Connector Series for Autonomous Driving

According to foreign media reports, Amphenol RF, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of RF interconnect solutions, announced the launch of the latest automotive interconnect technology – the AUTOMATE Mini-FAKRA connector series. The family provides the space-aware, high-performance interface that is critical for next-generation automotive applications. Compared to the previous FAKRA connector, the AUTOMATE connector has a data transfer speed of up to 20 Gbps and an 80% reduction in installation requirements.

The AUTOMATE connector series features a color-coded housing design that acts as a visual guide during assembly. In addition, the connector is mechanically controlled by a key, which prevents the connector from being mis-mated. The connector is easy to install and is suitable for automotive applications such as autonomous vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and 360-degree surround view cameras.

Currently available in a Type A right angle PCB and cable mount configuration, AUTOMATE connectors feature many of the same popular design elements as traditional FAKRA connectors, including push-fit (providing an audible confirmation of a secure connection) and end position assurance (TPA) , the latter is a secondary locking mechanism located on the cable mount connector, providing additional security during installation and will lock into place when the connector is properly mated.

The Type A connector series is fully compatible with existing mini FAKRA connectors commonly used in automotive applications. Additionally, custom cable assemblies and IP rated sealing solutions are available upon request.
